On 1.2.2021, the terrorist army led by Myanmar General Min Aung Hlaing illegally seized power by force of arms. To show that unable to accept an unjust military coup, Myanmar people launched a Spring Revolution to overthrow the military dictatorship. The Healthcare Professionals started the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) to against the military coup. Since then, CDM of civil servants emerged with the nationwide protests. Civil servants who do not want to serve under the junta are launching a non-violent protest CDM. Teachers from various universities are also involved in the CDM movement. Among the various facets of the movement, the students’ CDM movement has emerged to boycott military-controlled non-formal education, such as student dropout and absenteeism.
During the revolution, for the CDM students, to not lose their right to education and continue their education, CDM teachers, CDM staffs and CDM students tried together to establish interim university councils. These efforts received official approval from the the Ministry of Education – National Unity Government and then, the respective universities formed interim university councils.
Comprising representatives from the University of Medicine – Taunggyi, including CDM teachers, CDM staff, and CDM students, University of Medicine Taunggyi, Interim Univesrity Council (UMTGI IUC) was officially formed with the formal recognition of the Ministry of Education – National Unity Government (MOE/NUG) on May 19, 2021.
To build a federal education system in the new federal democracy of the future of Myanmar
To fully exercise the university’s autonomy
To act as the temporary governing body of the university during the revolution.
To establish qualified Interim education programs for CDM students to not lose their right and freedom to education.
